I made no comment suggesting that one should not try things whatever your way is, just offered my own suggestions. Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. Simply, don’t force your opinions on other people. This is a game, remember? If it works for you, well, great – but it does not work for me, and it is great as well. Then you just move for your Orion, but you need enough pocket change to get it surivvable, too, and I haven't quite figured that out, yet (I can get to the point of buying it, but it seems bigger or something, 'cause making it as good as the Tarsus without those high level shields seems hard: it's like the AI get better weapons or something, but it could be just that the double missile launcher with IRs makes that much of a difference).

Then spam with IRs until you can get either the very next upgrade or the best radar so you have ITTS, too, for more efficiency. Once you realize you don't absolutely need the top tier RADAR, you'll make some good money in trading or combat that'll get you a nice color-coded one that can lock in short order. Obviously one of the first things you're going to buy from there is the radar, again, but you want to focus on survivability. The worst problem i've had when friendlies were mixed in was sometimes the little furball got out of range and i couldn't catch up, though that was in Gemini Gold (basically, the enemy would get stuck looking away and was faster, but the militia wouldn't let up). I get why people wouldn't want to do this, though. Then you can use your comms (which the guy in the video forgot all about) to convince them to turn to you when your shields are back up. The situations with the largest threat is when you're alone, but in situations when you're not, you can definitely use the reprieve when they go after AI. I've had no luck talking the pirates out of fighting, and i'm not dropping my cargo.Īs for keeping your eye on them, it's not that hard, really. Your opinion may vary and I can respect that – but do please respect mine. This is my opinion based on 25 years of playing this game, plain and simple. Privateer is really fairly open world game – and you don’t have to fight everyone, who is initially hostile (you can literally talk them out of it) – and for this approach is keeping at least modest radar with target lock is simply a must. Without target lock you need to keep "your eyes on target", which is very impractical, as it makes evasive maneuvers rather difficult - because, you know, with the exception of retros, you don't really have to fight anyone, certainly not pirates and not even kilrathi (unless they are your designated target, of course). I stand corrected, the idea of selling the radar is something newer (and in fact, not recommended in the playtesters guide book as it strongly recommends retaining your original radar and upgrading it as soon as possible). While there is a central plot, the player can deviate from it somewhat and can continue playing the game after completing the main story missions. There is more than one way to play games like this - and different people tend have different opinions. The game is set in the Wing Commander universe, but is more of a free-form game similar to Elite. In the darkness, a battle between ships has woken up something ancient, powerful, and deadly. On the fringe of Human space, near the Kilrathi border, the industrial machine is running full-tilt to feed the war effort, and there is a lot of shipping – but also a lot of pirates, Retros (religious fanatics who want to destroy technology), military, militia, merchants, mercenaries, and privateers. Missions can vary from search and destroy to Fedex (i.e. Use spare cargo room to trade commodities to further add to the account. Start with the lowly scout, and upgrade to one of the three other superior ships: Galaxy (superior cargo space), Orion (superior protection), or Centurion (superior offense). The player assumes the role of a privateer. Wing Commander: Privateer is a space trading and combat simulation.
